Happy Women in Horror Month!

The Horror Writers Association (HWA) is once again celebrating Women in Horror Month (WiHM) by posting a fantastic group of interviews with women and femme-identified writers. I’m honored to be included this year.

WiHM was established in 2010 as an international, grassroots initiative to bring attention to women writers, filmmakers, and other creators. The celebration was initially in February, but has moved to March to coincide with Women’s History Month and to not conflict with Black History Month.

I’m tickled the HWA gave me the opportunity to talk about why I’m drawn to writing horror, my favorite horror characters, and to recommend a long list of horror authors. These folks are writing horror and dark, genre-bending fiction and poetry that are gorgeous and devastating. Much love to Mary Shelley and Shirley Jackson, but these writers are the ones to watch for the future of horror.

I’ve celebrated WiHM since its inception, but my true wish is for readers and the media expand their choices to include women and femme identified horror authors throughout the year.

The HWA is a nonprofit organization of writers, publishing professionals, and other folks dedicated to promoting dark literature and the interests of those who write it. If you love horror, check it out.
